ApparelJobs.lk is a purpose-built job portal designed to support Sri Lanka’s thriving apparel industry. Unlike general job boards, this platform focuses solely on connecting job seekers and employers within the garment and textile sector. As the solo developer and designer, I built the entire application from scratch — from branding and interface design to database architecture and deployment — with a strong emphasis on simplicity, performance, and scalability.
Challenges and goals
The key goal was to create a niche-specific job platform that would be easy to navigate for both job seekers and employers, while also being scalable and secure. A major challenge was building robust filtering and search functionality tailored to garment industry job criteria. Additionally, the platform needed a solid authentication system, employer dashboards, and reliable job posting flows without overwhelming users.

Integrated Clerk authentication with tailored dashboards for employers and applicants. Built logic to manage roles, job posting rights, and secure routes.
Scalable Backend Infrastructure
Modeled the database with Prisma ORM on MongoDB to allow flexible querying and future expansion like notifications, premium listings, or saved jobs.
Optimized for SEO & Performance
Used Next.js App Router for static rendering, image optimization, and metadata enhancement to improve Google indexing and user load times.
Outcome
ApparelJobs.lk successfully launched as Sri Lanka’s first apparel-focused job portal, streamlining recruitment in the garment sector. The platform received strong initial traction from both local employers and job seekers, with a growing number of posted jobs and account sign-ups. Its modern UI, performance optimization, and scalable architecture position it for long-term impact and expansion into broader B2B HR tools within the industry.
